How to get to Prasat when the Airports are closed!

With the recent closure of Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports, which left thousands stranded, a foreign national whose wife hails from Prasat chose an interesting route to get home to see his family in Prasat.
Young handsome Jonnie Brad a.k.a. Brad a.k.a. YHJB, was stuck in Saudi Arabia with his last paid leave of the year ticking away by the hour. He had booked a flight with a Middle Eastern airline which was due to land on Thursday 27th November.

As the airports were unfortunately closed his mind raced for an alternative, he did not want to spend the rest of his holidays waiting in a departure lounge. He checked the availability of flights to Kuala Lumpur, and then contacted his friends at the Leelawadee Gardens, who put him touch with a travel agent in Nong Khai.

He found that he could get a connecting flight from KL to Siem Reap in Cambodia, this left him about 180Km south of the Chong Chom / Osmach border. He contacted the Leelawadee Gardens again, who put him in touch with the Sydney Angkor hotel in Siem Reap. They not only offered YHJB accommodation with free airport pick-up, but helped him with arranging his taxi to the Thai / Cambodian border.

Unfortunately his bags failed to appear on the luggage carousel, now he had another dilemma, wait around for his bags to turn up & waste more precious holiday time, or write off the suitcases, and get back to Prasat. After much thought, he gave it almost 48hrs, and decided that if no luck on the bag horizon came, he would just have to smell like a water buffalo’s sports bag.

So to conclude his adventure YHJB, got to Prasat midday on Monday the 1st of December, being picked up at Chong Chom by the Leelawadee Gardens. In all, his detour cost him an extra 75000B, but as he would tell you it was money well spent, just so he could be re-united with his family, for 10 days.

I was amused by the story, I had thought of this route to get back to my favourite Resort: the Surin Hotel Prasat Isaan Resort of Leelawadee Gardens in Prasat City, Surin Province, Issan, Thailand, and if the minor holdup at the main Airport in Bangkok had lasted a few more days, I would have put the plan into effect.

You see I found out that most everybody wants to return to Leelawadee Gardens Resort Hotel, the wonderful swimming pool, the fantastic food and company.

I will be back in Prasat from February 5th to March 10th 2009, I look forward to meting up with my friends again, in the meantime, have a great Xmas and New Year.

    Regards to all, KiwiJor.

Unluckily we passed thru’ Bangkok airport a week before it was closed down by protestors otherwise we would have returned to the Surin Hotel Prasat Isaan Resort to enjoy their hospitality until it re-opened.

    HA HA HA,
I am now back in Saudi Arabia, & guess where my bags are now. Bangkok. I recieved an e-mail from http://www.bfs.co.th to say my airline had delivered the bags from KUL to BKK the day I flew to BAH. Yes bloody BAH, BAH, BAH.

    Oh well such is life

    Young & Handsom

I do have another problem though?

If I go to a Hotel in Surin is the beer warmer than a Resort in Prasat?
    or
If I go to a Hotel in Prasat is the beer warmer than a Resort in Surin?

    Conversely,

I could always have a beer in a Hotel or Resort in Prasat near Surin, then go to a Hotel in Surin near the Prasat Resort for another beer.

Goodness isnt the world full of choices, especially when it involves Hotels or Resorts in Prasat near Surin !!!!
